5 Signs Your Business Is Ready for an AI Agent
Most businesses jump straight to "we need an AI agent" before checking whether the underlying process is even ready for one. Here's the checklist we actually use with clients.
1. The task is repeatable, not one-off
If a task looks different every time, an agent will struggle. Agents excel at processes with clear, repeatable structure — even if that structure has branches and exceptions.
2. You can describe the decision rules
If you can explain to a new hire exactly how to make the decision, an agent can likely learn (or be given) the same rules. If the answer is "it depends, ask Sarah," that's a sign the process needs to be defined before it can be automated.
3. The data the agent needs already exists somewhere
Agents aren't magic — they need access to real data: your CRM, your order system, your documents. If that data is scattered or missing, that's the first project, not the agent.
4. There's a clear escalation path
The best agents know what they don't know. Before building, we always define: what happens when the agent is uncertain? Who does it hand off to, and with what context?
5. Someone owns it after launch
An agent isn't "set and forget" software — it needs a human owner who reviews its output periodically, especially in the first few weeks. If no one owns that, the agent will drift.
If your process checks most of these boxes, it's a strong candidate. If it doesn't, that's not a no — it just means the groundwork comes first.
